Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what information VertiGrid ("We," "Us," "Our") collects, how We use it, and your rights regarding it. This policy covers both the VertiGrid mobile application (the "App") and our website at playvertigrid.com (the "Website"), together referred to as the "Service."

The controller responsible for processing described in this policy, within the meaning of Art. 4(7) GDPR, is:

Definitions

  • App refers to VertiGrid, the mobile game.
  • Website refers to playvertigrid.com.
  • Service refers to the App, the Website, or both.
  • Personal Data means any information that relates to an identified or identifiable individual.
  • You means the person using the App or visiting the Website.

Data We Collect

From the App

VertiGrid has no accounts, no sign-in, and no registration. We never ask for your name, email address, phone number, or any other information that identifies you personally.

To make the game work — daily streaks, level progress, and your remaining lives and coins — the App creates a random anonymous identifier the first time you open it. This identifier is a string of random characters. It is not derived from your device, your Apple ID, or anything else about you, and it cannot be used to contact or identify you outside the game.

Linked to that identifier, We store:

  • Gameplay activity — which daily levels you started and completed, lives used, completion times, and similar in-game events.
  • Progress state — your current streak, remaining lives, coin balance, and unlocked content.
  • Purchase data — products bought, transaction identifiers, coin balance, and active entitlements (see In-App Purchases below).
  • Technical context — app version, device model, and operating system version, used to diagnose problems and decide which devices to support.

Because this information is stored against a persistent identifier, We treat it as personal data under the GDPR even though We cannot tell who you are.

We do not collect your location, contacts, photos, health data, or the contents of your device.

We use Google AdMob to show optional rewarded ads. Google collects its own data in connection with those ads, described under Advertising below.

The App also uses Apple's built-in crash reporting. Those reports go to Apple, not to Us, and We see them only in aggregated form through App Store Connect. This data is governed by Apple's privacy practices.

From the Website

The Website does not collect any personal data through account creation, sign-up forms, or similar means. The only data collected is aggregate analytics data gathered via Google Analytics cookies, described below.

How We Use Your Data

  • To run the game — serving your daily level, keeping your streak accurate, and tracking your lives.
  • To deliver purchases — crediting coins, unlocking content, and keeping your subscription and ad-free status active.
  • To understand and improve the game — measuring which levels are too hard, where players stop playing, and which features get used.
  • To fix problems — investigating bugs and crashes.

We do not sell your data. We do not carry out automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects for you. If you consent to personalised advertising, Google may use advertising data to build an advertising profile — see Advertising below.

Notifications

If you allow it, VertiGrid can remind you to play your daily level. These are local notifications: they are scheduled and displayed entirely on your device by iOS. No message is sent from Our servers, and no data about you leaves your device to deliver them.

We ask for notification permission only after you have finished a daily challenge, never on first launch. You can turn reminders off at any time in the App's settings, or in iOS Settings → Notifications → VertiGrid. Declining has no effect on the rest of the game.

Advertising

VertiGrid shows rewarded video ads. An ad never plays on its own — one only starts if you tap to start it.

Each level gives you a set number of lives, which We may adjust from time to time. If you use them all, you can watch a short video ad to get additional lives, or spend coins instead. If you have purchased "Remove Ads," ads are no longer shown to you.

Who delivers the ads

Ads are delivered by Google AdMob. For users in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, the relevant Google entity is Google Ireland Limited (Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland). For advertising, Google acts as an independent controller rather than as Our processor — it determines how it uses the data below for its own purposes, and its own privacy policy applies alongside this one.

What Google collects

When an ad is requested or shown, Google may collect:

  • Your IP address, which Google may use to estimate your approximate (city-level) location
  • Device identifiers, including Apple's Advertising Identifier (IDFA) where you have allowed tracking, and app- or developer-scoped identifiers
  • Device and app information, such as device model, operating system version, language and app version
  • Advertising data, such as which ads were shown to you, whether you watched them, and whether a reward was earned
  • Interaction and diagnostic data, including taps, video views, crashes and performance metrics

Google uses this to select, deliver and measure ads, limit how often you see the same ad, and detect fraud and invalid traffic.

Your choices

Before any ad is requested in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, you are shown a consent screen provided by a Google-certified consent management platform using the IAB Transparency and Consent Framework (TCF v2.3).

Personalised advertising, and the storing of or access to information on your device for advertising purposes, rely on your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR; § 25 TDDDG). If you decline, you are shown non-personalised ads instead and you still earn the lives. Non-personalised ads still involve limited processing for ad delivery, frequency capping and fraud prevention.

You can review or withdraw your choice at any time in the App under Settings → Ad Preferences.

Separately, iOS may ask whether you allow tracking across apps and websites. This is Apple's own permission, not Ours. If you decline, the Advertising Identifier is not made available to Google. You can change it at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.

International transfers

Google may transfer this data outside the EEA, including to the United States. Google LLC is certified under the EU–US Data Privacy Framework and also relies on Standard Contractual Clauses. This is separate from VertiGrid's own backend, which remains in Frankfurt.

In-App Purchases

VertiGrid offers optional in-app purchases, including coin packs, a VertiGrid+ subscription, and an option to remove ads. All payments are processed by Apple through the App Store. Apple handles your payment details under its own privacy policy; We never receive your name, Apple ID, card number, or billing address.

When you make a purchase, Apple confirms the transaction to the App, and We store the following on Our servers, linked to your anonymous identifier:

  • Purchase records — which product you bought, when, and the transaction identifier Apple provides, so We can deliver what you paid for and prevent duplicate or fraudulent claims.
  • Coin balance and spending — coins earned, bought, and spent (for example on extra lives, colored balls, or repairing a streak).
  • Entitlements — whether you have an active VertiGrid+ subscription or have removed ads.

Refunds are handled by Apple. If Apple informs Us that a purchase was refunded, We may remove the corresponding coins or entitlement.

Please note: coins are tied to your anonymous identifier. If you delete and reinstall the App or switch devices, unspent coins cannot be recovered. Subscriptions and the remove-ads purchase can be restored with "Restore Purchases," because Apple keeps a record of them; coin packs cannot.

Legal Basis for Processing (EEA and UK)

Where the GDPR applies, We rely on:

  • Contract (Art. 6(1)(b)) — processing needed to provide the game you asked for, including progress, streaks, lives, delivering in-app purchases, and maintaining your coin balance and entitlements.
  • Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)) — advertising, as described above, and analytics cookies on the Website.
  • Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)) — improving the game, diagnosing faults, and preventing abuse of the lives system and fraudulent or duplicate purchase claims. We have assessed that this processing is limited, low-risk, and does not override your rights.

Who Else Handles Your Data

We use Supabase Inc. as our backend and database provider. Supabase stores gameplay data on Our behalf under a data processing agreement and does not use it for its own purposes.

Our Supabase project is hosted in the European Union, in the Frankfurt region (Germany). Gameplay data is stored there and is not routinely transferred outside the European Economic Area.

Apple processes payments for in-app purchases as an independent controller, not as Our processor. Its own privacy policy applies to that processing.

Google, in connection with advertising, is not Our processor — it acts as an independent controller. See Advertising above.

Cookies and Analytics

The Website uses Google Analytics to help us understand how visitors use the site. Google Analytics uses cookies to collect information such as your approximate location, device and browser type, pages visited, and time spent on the site. This data is processed by Google LLC and may be transferred to and processed in the United States, under Google's standard contractual safeguards for international data transfers.

You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, or by declining non-essential cookies via our cookie consent banner. For more information, see Google's Privacy Policy.

We only load Google Analytics after you provide consent via our cookie banner.

Data Retention

  • Gameplay events: Detailed gameplay events are retained for 12 months, after which they are deleted or aggregated into anonymous statistics that can no longer be linked to an individual identifier.
  • Progress, coins and purchases: Your streak, lives, unlocked content, coin balance, entitlements and purchase records are kept for as long as We operate VertiGrid, so you can return and continue at any time. They are deleted earlier if you ask Us to delete your data. If you uninstall the App, this data remains stored but can no longer be linked to you or to any new installation, as the identifier cannot be recovered. If We ever stop operating the game, We will delete this data within a reasonable period after shutdown.
  • Advertising: Retention of advertising data is determined by Google, not by Us. See Google's Privacy Policy and "How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services" at policies.google.com.
  • Website: We do not directly retain any personal data. Analytics cookie data is retained per Google's own retention policies.

Your Rights

Under the GDPR, you have the right to access your data, correct it, have it deleted, restrict or object to its processing, and receive a copy in a portable format. Where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw that consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of processing carried out beforehand. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority — in Germany, the Berlin Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information, Alt-Moabit 59-61, 10555 Berlin.

Your data is tied to a random ID stored on your device. If you'd like it deleted, just email us from Settings → Support → Email Support. Your ID comes along automatically, and we'll take care of it within a month.

Please note that this identifier is created fresh each time the App is installed. If you delete and reinstall VertiGrid, the previous identifier cannot be recovered by you or by Us, and the data linked to it can no longer be located.

Children's Privacy

Our Service is not directed at children under the age of 16, and We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16. If you believe We may have inadvertently collected data from a child, please contact Us and We will delete it.

Links to Other Websites

Our Website and social links may point to third-party sites (e.g. social media platforms) that We do not operate. We are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of those sites.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date.
